QANTAS (oneworld) — easiest from NZ
  1. Know the targets: Silver 300 · Gold 700 · Platinum 1,400 SCs, plus minimum 4 flights with a QF/JQ flight number on the ticket each membership year.
  2. Fare class is everything: Business (J/C) earns ~4× an Economy sale fare. One AKL→SYD→DPS Business return = 400 SCs (57% of Gold).
  3. Book inside a DSC window: Qantas runs ~3 Double Status Credit promos/year with ~7-day booking windows (tracked in the amber panel above — travel up to 12 months out). One long-haul Business return booked in a window ≈ instant Gold.
  4. Stack ground earn: from late 2026 you can earn up to 140 SCs/yr without flying (Qantas credit cards, retail, utilities) — that's 20% of Gold.
  5. Use the new rollover: from late 2026, unused SCs roll over (caps: Silver 100 · Gold 350 · Platinum 500) — overshoot years are no longer wasted.
  6. Status-run maths: target under ~NZD $11 per SC. This site's Quote Mode shows SC-per-route so you can compare conferences on exactly that basis.
VELOCITY (Virgin Australia)
  1. Targets: Silver 250 · Gold 500 · Platinum 1,000 SCs plus a minimum number of eligible VA sectors (verify current T&Cs).
  2. Spend-based earn (since Apr 2025): 1 SC per $12 on Choice/Flex/Business fares, 1 per $24 on Lite — expensive fares now earn faster.
  3. Time the promos: Velocity ran a record bonus-SC campaign Jan–Mar 2026 (up to 125 bonus SCs, flown flights included). Historically these land Jan–Mar — hold non-urgent AU bookings for them.
  4. Family Pooling: unique to Velocity — pool points and SCs to fast-track one household member to Gold.
  5. Partner earn: Singapore Airlines Business earns Velocity SCs when accounts are linked with KrisFlyer.
AIR NZ AIRPOINTS — the honest take
  1. Targets: Silver 450 · Gold 900 · Elite 1,500 Status Points (retention is lower: 405 / 810 / 1,350).
  2. The catch: ≥50% of SPs must come from Air NZ-operated flights (60% for Elite) — partner-heavy itineraries won't get you there.
  3. Who it suits: frequent NZ domestic + trans-Tasman flyers. If your CME travel is mostly international conferences, Qantas Gold is the better chase (see the maths in Quote Mode).
  4. Star Alliance earn: United, Air Canada and Singapore flights earn SPs — useful for US/Canada conferences, within the 50% rule.
🎯 The 5-step execution plan: ① Pick ONE program (from NZ with international CME travel: Qantas). ② Set a Qantas app alert + calendar reminder for the estimated DSC windows above. ③ Plan next year's conferences here in Browse mode, and price them in Business via Quote Mode (NZ CME rule: Business is claimable when the route is >4h). ④ Book the big long-haul inside a DSC window. ⑤ Fill the gap with a short status run (AKL→SYD→DPS Business is the classic) and, from late 2026, ground-earn the last ~140 SCs.
